Happy New Year!

This is just a quick post. I will try to catch up on weekly/monthly blog posts soon. I enjoy doing those — I like to log my running anyway, and I love making graphs and charts.

I will also post a running year in review blog post at some point, and new running goals for 2022, which I usually post towards the end of January.

I’ve been sidetracked the last few weeks with a new job, moving, a new apartment, and the realization that moving to the UK and getting rid of most of my stuff and moving back to the US and again getting rid of most of my stuff means I don’t have a whole lot of stuff that I used to have, and now I have to buy more stuff.

I have a million things I need to buy for my apartment, like furniture to store my clothes (it turns out, I have both a wardrobe perfectly suited for working in a lab at a New England university, and also a ton of running clothes, and one small dresser is not nearly enough for both). I have a huge list of things to buy, including several large pieces of furniture, tons of stuff for the kitchen, and lots of little things. So what did I buy in the last week? A Coros Pace 2 watch (I really, really “need” a new GPS watch, and I found it on sale at what appears to be a legitimate website, I’ll believe it when I see the watch arrive), and 3 pairs of Nike Pegasus 36s.

It is convenient that I don’t care what I look like when I’m running (I convinced my mom to buy these same shoes in her size last time we were at the outlet, probably 8 months ago. They did not have my size at that time. She is waiting until summer to wear them so they don’t look as “loud”). I told the Nike outlet guy that “I run a lot” – he did not seem to care. I run through shoes about every 350-450 miles, so this isn’t a splurge as much as something I definitely, absolutely need, and this is a great price for Nike Pegs, even if they are two styles out of date.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. Cases of Covid are very high in Ohio, very high in Connecticut, and another one of my family members just tested positive (they were vaccinated and boosted, so hopefully they will only experience mild symptoms). I’m trying to balance my excitement for all the new changes in my life with staying safe and as careful as possible. I’m looking forward to a new year, new opportunities, my new job, discovering new places to run, and hopefully signing up for some races this year.
